Kolkata Durga pandal puts Gandhi's statue in place of Mahishasura

In a shocking and heinous act, a Durga Pooja pandal has sculpted Mahishasura in the form of Mahatma Gandhi. The puja pandal showed Goddess Durga slaying Mahishasura in the form of Mahatma Gandhi with her spear. The statue of the Gandhi-look alike Mahushasura has become controversial and a complaint has been lodged against the organisers of the pandal.
The pandal was erected at Ruby Crossing in South West Kolkata by the Akhil Bharatiya Hindu Mahasabha. Post the complaint, the police warned the organisers to replace the Mahishasura and the organisers complied quickly. The organisers said that the police had visited the puja pandal and instructed them to replace the demon, which looked like Mahatma Gandhi.
Earlier, the image of the demon was shared by a journalist identified as Indradeep Bhattacharyya, who tagged the Kolkata police. He later wrote on Twitter: "I have been requested by @KolkataPolice cyber cell @DCCyberKP to delete my tweet on a particular puja in Kolkata as they think it might create tension amid the festivities. As a responsible citizen I abide by their request."
Mny people condemned the act and said that this was not the right thing to do. Even Bangiya Parishad Hindu Mahasabha, a splinter group of the Hindu Mahasabha condemned the incident. Political parties like the Trinamool Congress and the Bharatiya Janata Party too have condemned the depiction of the demon as Gandhi.
