Konaseema Name Row: Curfew Restrictions For a Week!
By: Tupaki Desk | 23 May 2022 11:15 AM GMTActing on the big promise he made, Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister YS Jagan Mohan Reddy had recently paved the way for the new districts to emerge for an easy administration. A few districts were named after the prominent names. Recently, the Konaseema region, which is the home to beautiful locations and landscapes was named after BR Ambedkar.
As the region enjoys a good number of Dalit and Adivasi population, it was named after the father of the Indian Constitution BR. Ambedkar. But the announcement resulted in tension gripping the region as a new controversy erupted around the new name of the region.
A few groups and bodies are reportedly not happy with the region named after Ambedkar. Demanding that the previous name should be fixed, they reportedly gave a call to protest. The Dalit groups hit back saying that they will not let the region get another name.
The alleged protests and counter-protests forced the Police department to swing into action and take the appropriate action. To see that no unwanted scenes take place, section 144 was imposed in the region, and Police personnel were deployed in big numbers to deal with the unexpected issues if any raises.
Starting from Monday, the curfew restrictions will go on for one week. Areas like Amalapuram, P. Gannavaram. Kottapeta, Katrenikona, and Ravulapalem Mandals were placed under curfew given the tense situation. No rallies and events will be allowed in the region.
