At least 57 pilgrims died in the Kondagattu Bus Tragedy. While 43 others suffered injuries, Condition of half of them has been critical. 38 of the deceased have been women and there are 4 kids as well.

RTC Bus (AP 29 Z 2319) fell into the gorge at Kondagattu Ghat Road after the driver lost control of it. While Driver Srinivas was one among the deceased, Conductor Parameswar has been undergoing treatment.

Over-Loading:

The ill-fated bus began it's journey at 10.15 am in Sanivarampeta and crossed Kondagattu Junction at 11.18 am. Driver lost control of the bus at a steep turning. While the actual seating capacity is 52, Close to 100 passengers were in the bus at the time of accident. Most of the passengers moved to one side of the bus when the Driver tried to prevent collision with Jeep coming from the opposite direction. Driver Srinivas is a recipient of Best Driver Award.

Change Of Route By RTC:

Buses used to reach Jagityal from Sanivarampeta via Himmatraopeta, Ramsagar, Thimmayyapalle and Nachupalle. RTC Officials changed the route 10 days for generating more revenue. Buses has been operating in the route Sanivarampeta, Himmatraopeta, Ramsagar, Thimmayyapalle, Kondagattu and Jagityal.

Ex-Gratia:

Kin of the deceased demanded Rs 20 lakh ex-gratia. Rs 10 lakh compensation has been sought for each one of the deceased. Stringent action against the official responsible for the tragedy is another demand of the victims families.

Rs 5 lakh on behalf of State Government & Rs 3 lakh from RTC will offered to the families of the deceased. Rs 5 lakh will be offered under Rythu Bheema if there are farmers among the deceased.

Worst Bus Tragedy in India:

Kondagattu tragedy is the worst bus mishap in the country. While 52 people were killed in 2012 bus mishap at Himachal Pradesh, 51 People died in Jammu & Kashmir bus accident. In the past, 45 people were killed in the bus mishap at Mahabubnagar District, Telangana. Never been before 57 people died in a bus tragedy.
