Krishna water dispute to be discussed on July 9

Water has become a source of war between both the sibling states of Telangana and Andhra Pradesh. Whenever it suits him politically, KCR is trying to rake up water sharing issues and is creating tensions between the two states. Unfortunately, the Centre, which has to play the arbitrator, is washing its hands by directing the issue to the three-member committee on water disputes.
The three-member committee will meet on July 9 and both the states are preparing their respective arguments on Krishna waters. The AP is likely to oppose the carry-forward policy proposed by the Telangana government. It is argued that the unused waters in one year should not be carried forward to the second year. According to clause 8 of the Krishna water tribunal, carry forward is not possible and the excess or unused water can be shared by both the states. Similarly, the AP cannot be held responsible for the loss of Musi waters. It is Telangana which should take care and ensure that Musi water does not flow into Krishna river. It is also questioning Telangana's contention that the water flow loss would be around 27 per cent. It wants the Central Government to form a joint committee. The excess water of 13.47 tmc released from the Nagarjunasagar project should not be counted in Telangana's share of water.
Telangana is likely to argue that it would use the carry forward method to use unused water of 50.851 tmc of the 2019-20. It says it will use the water in 2020-21. Telangana also says that 80 per cent of its water is flowing from Musi into Krishna river. It also claims that the water released through the right canal of Nagarjuna Sagar to be counted in AP's quota. Let's wait and see how things unfold on July 9.
