TS Assembly Gives Nod To Bill To Provide 50 Percent Reservation For Women In GHMC

The Telangana State Legislative Assembly has met for a special session and approved four crucial bills, including the Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) amendment bill 2020.
The GHMC amendment bill 202 was tabled by Minister of MA&UD, Industries, and IT&C Kalvakuntla Taraka Rama Rao which provides a 50 percent reservation to women in GHMC.
With the mandatory reservation providing for women in GHMC, women will be elected to half of the division in GHMC, i.e. 75 out of 150 divisions in the Council.
The house also approved the other amendments like the allocation of 10 percent of the GHMC budget to the Gren budget.
Talking about the same KTR said the implementation of reservation was an election promise which is made by TRS chief and Telangana Chief Minister KCR during the election campaign.
The election promise was fulfilled. This makes, Telangana the first state to provide 50 percent reservation to women in local bodies, he added
