Last CM of AP is a KAPU: Congress High Command
X
Congress High Command has decided to offer CM post to an influential Kapu leader from the Seemandhra as part of its vote bank politics. While Kammas (5%) have been loyal to TDP, Reddy's (10%) moved towards YSR Congress. Hence, Congress is banking heavily on Kapus.

Kapu and its sub-castes (Turpu Kapu, Balija, Telaga, Ontari) constitute about 25.18% percent of the population of Andhra Pradesh.

As per the latest development, Only Chiranjeevi, Botsa Satyanarayana and Kanna Lakshminarayana are in the race for CM Chair. By choosing a Kapu leader, Congress wishes to gain some mileage in the Seemandhra region in 2014 polls.

Percentage of Population of AP based on Caste:

BCs: 35-10 percent.
SCs: 16 percent.
Brahmins: 2-3 percent.
Vysyas: 2 percent.
Velamas: 1-2 percent.

While Forward Castes (Kapu, Reddy, Kamma, etc.,) and Backward Castes make up about 35% and 50 % of the total population respectively, SC and Tribes constitute 10% and 5% of the existing population.
