Leaders yesterday, bus drivers today

Till the other day, he was a trade union leader, which thousands of employees at his beck and call. He addressed the packed media conferences and the ministers invited him for parleys. But, what will be RTC JAC leader Ashwatthama Reddy today? He is just another driver, who steers the bus through the streets and ferries across passengers.

Yes. JAC leader Ashwatthama Reddy, his assistant Raji Reddy, Supervisors association leader Sudha and 32 other trade union leaders will now be just ordinary RTC employees. After the government has cancelled 'Relief Service' (a facility given to the trade union leaders so that they need not attend to daily duties), they will have to work like any other employee. While Ashwatthama Reddy is a driver, Raji Reddy is a conductor. They will now do these duties. 32 other leaders, who till now enjoyed relief service facility, will now have to report to duties as per regular times and have to sign in their registers like ordinary employees.

Soon after the RTC strike is called off The Telangana government has locked all the trade union offices and has removed the facilities being given to the trade union leaders. With this, yesterday's leaders have now become ordinary employees. Don’t be surprised if the bus you are travelling in could have Ashwatthama Reddy as the driver and one day Raji Reddy may issue tickets to you in the bus.
