Hurun Report and EdelGive Foundation had prepared a list of top Philanthropists across the globe in the 100 years based on the information available and the details derived from the foundations of the respective firms.

The top position in the list is not a surprise as Jamsetji Tata, popularly known as the Father of Indian Industry topped the list with a donation of $102 billion. Azim Premji is the only Indian besides Mr. Tata to find a spot on the list.

Taking to Twitter, Hurun India shared the report, which declares Jamsetji Tata as the leading philanthropist in the world in the past 100 years. Bill Gates and Melinda Gates, Warren Buffett, and Investor George Soros stood at 2nd, 3rd and 4th positions respectively.

Mr. Tata had started his Philanthropic work back in 1892 and the Tata Groups are still taking the path led by the Father of Indian Industry. Jamshedpur city of Jharkhand was named after Mr. Tata.

The report says, the United States has the highest number of philanthropists with 39. The United Kingdom, China, and India have the next highest philanthropists with five, three, and two respectively.

The list was compiled based on the information on the donations, distributions, and assets donated by the respective individuals to the current date. A portion of data was collected from the concerned foundation too.
