Lockdown Results In Huge Losses Of Excise Department

Now looking at the figures, it is found out that at an average Rs 700 crores is the income generated through the alcohol sales which is around Rs 17500 crores to Rs 20,000 crores in the country.
In many states, excise income is very crucial for the states as it enjoys a lion share of income for the state income. Talking about Telangana around 20,000 crores is generated by the excise department.
Looking at the details of the same, last year Uttar Pradesh witnessed Rs 26,000 crores income which is the highest followed by Maharashtra, Telangana, and Karnataka with 24,000, 21,500 and 20,000 crores respectively.
At an average, every state has to face around 2 crore loss of excise sales due to the lockdown imposed in India. The price of alcohol in the gray markets increased at once with the unavailability of alcohol.
