As many as 17 members of the Lok Sabha have tested positive for coronavirus on the first day of the 18-day Monsoon session.

All the MPs were tested at the Parliament House as the tests are mandatory ahead of the monsoon session of parliament started this morning.

Among the infected MPs, the BJP has a maximum number of 12 while the YSR Congress has two MPs and Shiv Sena, DMK and RLP have one each.

Around 200 of the 785 MPs in India are above 65 years and are among the population vulnerable to COVID-19. Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla on Sunday has sent a safety coronavirus kit along with a letter to all the parliamentarians amid the pandemic. As of now, an MP and several MLAs have died from the highly infectious disease.
