The Madhya Pradesh Assembly, which is making all the arrangements to kick-start the much-awaited winter sessions faced a brutal shock, as the Covid-19 pandemic hit the house.

Madhya Pradesh Assembly Protem speaker Rameshwar Sharma has confirmed that not less than 61 employees and officials of the Assembly secretariat have come in contact with the virus. The infected people include five MLAs, ANI quoted.

He said the infections were detected as part of the Covid-19 tests conducted before the Assembly sessions started. The reports of some of the legislators and still awaited.

With the sudden development, it is also said that the winter sessions of the assembly were also postponed given the Covid-19 situation. As per the schedule, the winter session was supposed to commence on December 28.

Legislative Assembly Principal Secretary, AP Singh was quoted by ANI as saying, due to the situation, the three-day session has been postponed, which will be added in the upcoming budget session.

It has been widely reported that the decision to postpone the winter session was taken during the all-party meeting. Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan, Home Minister Narottam Mishra, state Congress unit president Kamal Nath, and others have attended the meeting.
