In a rather significant move, the Maharashtra government led by Chief Minister Uddhav Thackeray has withdrawn the general consent that was extended to the Central Bureau of Investigation(CBI).

With the new development, the public agency needs to seek the permission of the state to conduct the inquiries in the state from here after.

The orders to withdraw the general consent were issued during the late hours of Wednesday. Deputy Secretary to Maharashtra Kailas Gaikwad issued these orders.

The shocking move came in the light of the alleged TRP scam creating havoc in the state. The other day, the UP government filed an FIR in this regard and partially transferred the case to CBI.

Some media reports claimed that the new development will not hinder Sushant Singh's case as the case was transferred based on the orders issued by the Supreme Court.

However, Maharashtra is the fourth state to block the CBI from entering its jurisdiction. Earlier Rajasthan, Chhattisgarh, and West Bengal have withdrawn the general consent. Interestingly, all four states are ruled by non-BJP governments.
