Maharashtra Governor Vidyasagar Rao rejected the pardon petition of Bollywood actor Sanjay Dutt who was sentenced to 5 years in prison for illegal possession of arms during 1993 Mumbai serial blasts.

Former Surpreme Court judge Markandey Katju has moved the petition in 2013 seeking pardoning of Sanjay Dutt. Based on the recommendation of the Maharashtra Home Ministry which felt relief to the actor will set a bad precedent as he was declared as convict by the Supreme Court, Governor has turned down the plea.

Sanjay Dutt has served 18 months in prison after his arrest for the first time. Again in March 13, He surrendered to serve the remaining period in Pune's Yerwada Jail.

Currently, Sanjay Dutt is on a parole for his daughter's nose surgery. The actor is likely to be released from jail in February next year.
