As a sensational development in Maharashtra politics, Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) leader, Maharashtra Home Minister Anil Deshmukh resigned from his post and submitted his resignation letter to Chief Minister Uddhav Thackeray.

He resigned from his post after the Bombay High Court issued directives to the central agency Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) to launch an inquiry into the allegations made by former Mumbai top cop Param Bir Singh against him within 15 days.

The Bombay High Court heard a petition filed by petitioner Dr. Jaishri Patil over the allegations against the Home Minister. After hearing the arguments of the petitioner, the Court directed the CBI to launch an inquiry in this regard.

Former Mumbai Police Chief Param Bir Singh, who was sacked from the position in connection with the Ambani House Scare issue has raised allegations against the Home Minister.

In his letter to Chief Minister Uddhav Thackeray, the former top cop alleged that Home Minister Anil Deshmukh directed the cops to collect Rs 100 crore every month from the pubs and restaurants in the state.

The allegations against the Home Minister have reportedly caused a rift in the Maha Vikas Aghadi (MVA) government.
