Saudi Arabia to buy land in Maldives, India worried!

Abdulla Yameen Government in Maldives has been mulling to sell atoll to Saudi Arabia. The proposal to sell Faafu which is one of the 26 atolls came as huge shock to the Indian Government as it poses a security challenge.
Opposition Party Maldivian Democratic Party objected the proposal citing it would increase Wahabism in the country. A member of the Opposition Party reminds selling land in Maldives amounts to death penalty in the old days. The Government was also criticized for not taking people's consent at all.
In 2015, Government brought an amendment permitting foreigners to own land in Maldives.
Very soon, Saudi Arabia king Salman bin Abdulaziz Al Saud will visit Maldives. The deal might be finalized during this tour.
