Marrying outside religion doesn't change daughter-father relation
By: Tupaki Desk | 23 Feb 2022 6:50 PM ISTHearing a petition, a High Court had said that marriage is important, but not more important than education. Adding further, the High Court also made it clear that the relationship between a daughter remains the very same even if the daughter marries someone outside her religion.
The division bench of Madhya Pradesh High Court comprising Justice Sheel Nagu and Justice M S Bhatti made the sensational observations while hearing a habeas corpus petition filed by a Muslim man who moved the court challenging the development of his lover kept at the Nari Niketan.
As the parents of the girl are against the decision of their daughter to marry a person outside the religion, the High Court is said to have told that even if the marriage is outside the religion, the relationship between daughter and father remains the same and he has to take care of her.
Mentioning that the girl is above 18 and is a major now and she cannot be kept at the women's centre, the division bench said that, the father of the girl should take care of the girl and look after her needs as the person the girl wants to marry cannot afford all the needs.
The bench also said that education is more important than marriage and directed the girl to complete her education first and then focus on getting married.
"The father continues to be a father and, therefore, is equally entitled to ensure the safety of the daughter. Thus, this court expects that the father shall continue to keep in touch with her and provide her with the financial and emotional assistance she needs to the extent such assistance falls short and is unable to be provided by her spouse," the bench said during the hearing.
