President Pranab Mukherjee on Friday approved the list of six nominated members to the Rajya Sabha. The prominent personalities aiming for a berth in Upper House in the category of 'achievers in various spheres of public life' include Boxing legend Mary Kom, Former cricketer Navjyot Singh Sidhu, Malayalam actor Suresh Gopi, BJP leader Subramanian Swamy, Economist Narendra Jadhav and Journalist Swapan Dasgupta.
Mary Kom is India's pride in the field of Boxing and she is aiming for an Olympic medal.
Suresh Gopi is the star campaigner of BJP in Kerala Assembly polls and there is talk about his induction into Modi's cabinet.
Subramanian Swamy was honoured with Rajya Sabha berth for troubling the Gandhis with National Herald case.
Sidhu was nominated to Rajya Sabha in the wake of reports that he might quit BJP and become the face of Aam Admi Party in Punjab.
Economist Narendra Jadhav & Journalist Swapan Dasgupta were honoured for their services in their respective fields.
As of now, There are seven vacancies out of total twelve in this category of Rajya Sabha berths. While six nominations were already announced, The name of the other member hasn't been revealed so far.
