Massive raids across the two Telugu states on Maoist sympathizers, covert operators and frontal organization representatives has sent shivers down the spine of ultra Left leaders. On Wednesday and Thursday, NIA conducted simultaneous raids at 31 places.

It's been a long time that such raids were conducted in the Telugu States. The raids came at a time when it was generally believed that the Maoists were focusing on retaining their base in Chattisgarh, Dandakaranya and Odisha. However, amid reports that the Maoists were also trying to improve their organizational networks in two Telugu states too, the raids were planned at the same time. The raids were conducted in Vizag, Srikakulam, East Godavari, Krishna, Guntur, Prakasam, Kadapa and Kurnool in AP and in Hyderabad, Medchal Malkajgiri, Rangareddy and Medak in Telangana. These arrests were based on the information provided by Pongi Naganna, a journalist in Munchingiput area.

There are reports that the Maoists were trying to strengthen their organizational network in the Agency areas of Andhra Pradesh. Significantly, most of the arrests in Telangana were made in and around Hyderabad.
