Massive Win For Delhi Govt On Executive Powers!

In what could be seen as a significant win for the Aam Aadmi Party government in the national capital Delhi led by Arvind Kejriwal, the Supreme Court bench made some sensational comments on who gets control between the state government and the union government on the services.

The five-judge Supreme Court bench led by Chief Justice D Y Chandrachud made some sensational comments and said that the elected government in Delhi holds power on services and the Lieutenant Governor (LG) should abide by the decisions taken by the elected government. The bench said that the Delhi government holds control of the services leaving out Land, Police & Law.

The five-judge bench comprising Justices M R Shah, Krishna Murari, Hima Kohli, and PS Narasimha gave the sensational verdict on the petition filed by Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal. Ruling out the verdict given by the two-judge bench saying that the Delhi government will not have any control over the administrative issues, the bench said the elected governments have control.

"If a democratically elected government is not given the power to control the officers, the principle of triple chain of accountability will be redundant," Justice Chandrachud said during the arguments.

Delhi is one of the union territories and the Union government has been taking care of things there for a very long time. But things are not going well between the BJP-ruled Centre and AAP after the former came to power in the national capital. A power battle has been going on between the two forces.

The issue has become political as the Delhi government has been alleging that the Union government is creating issues and obstacles to the government on various issues. We have seen some war of words between the two governments many times.

The Delhi government also leveled serious allegations against Lieutenant Governor on various matters. The much-talked-about Delhi liquor scam came to light after he made the allegations and ordered an inquiry, say many. Everyone knows what happened in the case. Even Deputy Chief Minister of Delhi Manish Sisodia was also arrested. The Delhi government had to shuffle the cabinet.
