Opposition's Presidential Candidate Meira Kumar broke a 50-Year-Old Record despite losing the battle to NDA's nominee Ram Nath Kovind.

Meira Kumar who termed the contest as battle of ideology not individuals secured 3.67 lakh votes out of total 10.69 lakh votes polled. The last Presidential Candidate who came anywhere close to Meira Kumar was Ex-Chief Justice of India Koka Subba Rao who contested 1967 Presidential Polls as the candidate of United Opposition Parties.

K Subba Rao who resigned as Chief Justice to contest Presidential Polls got defeated by Zakir Hussain. He, however, managed to get 3.63 lakh votes which is the most by any other Opposition Candidate or Losing Candidate until recently.

Of course, The record set by Subba Rao with 43 percent vote share is still intact as Meira Kumar received only 34 percent vote share.
