Mekapati Vikram Reddy to file nomination papers today

As expected Mekapati Vikram Reddy, brother of former minister Mekapati Gautham Reddy, will file his nomination papers on Thursday for the Atmakur assembly constituency bypolls. Vikram Reddy, who has been nominated by the YSRCP, will first offer pooja at the Abhaya Anjaneya Swami temple in Atmakur and then will reach the Hill Road via Nelluru Palem Centre and BSR Centre. He would then proceed to the RDO office to file his papers.
The bypolls were necessitated due to the untimely demise of Gautham Reddy. Initially, the YSRCP toyed with the idea of making Gautham Reddy’s wife as the candidate for the bypoll. But, the Mekapati family preferred Vikram Reddy for the bypoll. Vikram Reddy, accordingly, has already covered the whole of the constituency and met the key party workers seeking their support.
The political pundits say that the victory would be a cakewalk for Vikram Reddy as the Mekapati family is well respected in the constituency and Gautham Reddy enjoyed a great rapport with the kind and the commoner alike. In addition, there is a wave of sympathy due to the sudden and shocking demise of Gautham Reddy.
In deference to Mekapati family, major political parties like the TDP and the Jana Sena have decided not to put up any candidate against Vikram Reddy. However, the BJP, which has taken a principled stand against the dynastic politics, has announced that it would put up a candidate, making polling unavoidable.
