Covid Impact: Men Likely to lose Sperm Count: Study!
By: Tupaki Desk | 8 April 2022 1:06 PM GMTThe Covid outbreak is the most deadly pandemic the world has ever faced in recent times. The Covid patient developing post-pandemic symptoms is a big concern as they have to deal with it until the right cure is found. Covid survivors across the globe have been suffering from the symptoms like joint pains and heart-related issues.
As if it was not enough the researchers have found that the Covid survivors might also face issues like a dip in male fertility as the fertility organs will be affected by the Covid infection. The new study was conducted by the Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Bombay in collaboration with the researchers at the Jaslok Hospital.
To get a better understanding of how Covid infection leaves a toll on male fertility, the semen of Covid survivors and non-Covid survivors was examined by the researchers. The outcome of the study is that the Covid survivors have developed a reduction in their sperm count.
The key proteins in semen semenogelin 1 and prosaposin play a big role in male production and they saw a big dip in the semen of the Covid survivors, compared to others. The level of sperm court disparity is so big that the proteins are only half compared to healthy men.
However, the researchers said that they cannot jump to a conclusion going by the outcome of the small level of study and it takes a long time and a bigger study to see if the Covid has an impact on fertility or not.
