With ‘Rebel’ movie going for a toss, Prabhas is waiting to deliver a stunning flick before he actually moves to ‘Baahubali’. Let us see if this ‘Mirchi’ is spicy or not.
The CONTENT
Jai (Prabhas) falls flat for Manasa (Richa) while working in Milan, Italy and come to know that her Palnadu based ‘faction’ family will not like her being happy for too long. He is back to Hyderabad then, befriends Manasa’s brother (Subbaraju) and leaves to their village to bring a change in all their family about treating people well rather indulging in bloodshed. However when he changes all except Manasa’s uncle, the family wants Jai to get married to Manasa. But Jai reveals to Manasa that he is son of their opponents’ leader Deva.
Cut to flash back, Jai indulges in bloodshed to awake the peaceful people of his fatherÂ’s village to take sword route again. While his father Deva tries to keep village at peace from last 20 years, Jai makes the mission failure with his hot-blooded mentality. When Jai is about to get married to his sister-in-law Vennela (Anushka), an attack takes places (from Manasa family) and JaiÂ’s mother is killed. Irritated with the happening, Deva bans Jai from his village and life. What will Jai do now to win his fatherÂ’s heart back and to bring change in their opponents aka ManasaÂ’s family is the rest of movie.
The EFFORT :
On-Screen:
Prabhas is like energetic dynamite who will blast everywhere. The dialogues are sewed for his body language and he makes no mistake in delivering them with impact. Fights, yes, Prabhas is stunning as ever. All the action scenes in the flick got that hair rising effect only due to this hunk hero. But sometimes his performance is toned to a class-style which resulted in dull moments.
In the first half, Richa fills the space for glamour but got no scope for performance. At times, she looked plastic. But it is Anushka who blows your minds in the second half. Her cute action as a naughty sister-in-law and village belle, will woo your hearts. But the out of proportion structure of Anushka might disappoint the guys who loved her previous sex appeal.
Subba Raju, Brahmanandam, Sampath, Aditya Menon got some nice roles to fill the screen. But, yesteryear siren Nadiya failed to create any impact as expected. Also she looked more like a sister than PrabhasÂ’ mother.
But the most important role is Satya RajÂ’s, who played as heroÂ’s father. Looks like, he has loads of talent to get exploited by Telugu directors. He is simple and subtle, yet powerful.
Off-Screen:
In fact this is Koratala ShivaÂ’s first flick as a director and that inexperience is evident. While writing a story, the focus will be on dialogues, but while making it, there should be some visual appeal too. Also director should extract brilliant performance from actors and must be able to cut shots well. However, to cover all his flaws in those disjoint scenes, Shiva has adapted to formula rather experimenting with creativity. He chose a regular story that got shades of age old Telugu revenge-dramas, but wrote it well in terms of dialogue.
Songs scored by Devi Sri Prasad are a big hit already and his background score makes you feels the punch of this ‘Mirchi’ quite well. Prabhas has stated that this cinematographer, Madhi, is the best guy he worked till date, but he is not that stunning.
All other technicians have supported the director and cinematographer well.
The PLUSES:
· Prabhas performance and dialogues
· Thrilling second half that got all action
· Songs that give you visual feast
The MINUSES:
· Silly comedy that brings no laughs
· Dragged first half
· Routine formulaic story
BREAKDOWN:
Kortala Shiva should have aimed at a stunning story if he wanted to prove his direction capabilities. But the director wanted to deliver a hit for Prabhas and thatÂ’s it, the job is done. But he needs to control writing those boring dramas that bore audiences easily. Many star directors copy scenes, but will mix that with their creative touch. However, Shiva failed in that aspect and youÂ’ll recollect films like Rebel and Dammu. But the best thing is that he engaged the audiences for 2 hours without moving from their seats.
Prabhas and team made sure that they will not do any beyond the border scenes and over exaggerated scenes such that a good movie will fall in kitty.
On a whole, Mirchi is an age-old vengeance drama that is nicely executed with its own moments of both good and bad. If you watch it with high expectations, youÂ’ll end up feeling nothing, but open minds and formula lovers will feel the taste.
These are the days where films without content and with good gripping scenes are sustaining at Box Office. In that case, Mirchi will do good at all centres and will get stunning openings in first week. But the movie will die eventually due to the poor comedy elements.
The FINISHING Line: Looks like Andhra Mirchi, but tastes like sweet-mirchi laced with buttermilk!!!
