Still, Indian Captain Harmanpreet Kaur decided not to include an in-form Mithali Raj in Playing XI. Eventually, Women In Blue lost by 8 wickets in the Semi Final against England.
After the defeat in Semis, There was a severe backlash on Indian Women's Cricket Team Captain, Coach and Manager from the public. Harmanpreet made the matters worse by commenting that she doesn't regret denying place for Mithali Raj.
Mithali Raj's Manager Annisha Gupta lashed out at Harmanpreet Kaur describing her as manipulative, immature, liar and undeserving captain. She added, 'Unfortunately, @BCCIWomen believes in politics nor sport. You don't drop your senior-most, most experienced players in a semi-final against a country like England. It goes beyond giving the youngsters a chance'.
