In May this year, Prime Minister Narendra Modi alleged former PM Rajiv Gandhi's Family used warship INS Viraat as their 'personal taxi' for vacation. He claimed to have never imagined that a Warship will be used like Taxi for a personal holiday. 'One Dynasty Did It,' he said targeting the Gandhi Khandhan.

BJP MP Subramanian Swamy went a step ahead and accused Jawaharlal Nehru of misusing the military equipment in the 50s. He claimed his Father-in-Law JD Kapadia who was serving as Defence Secretary at that time refused to ferry one of Nehru's European Mistresses in the defence vehicle and he ended up facing transfer.

India Today filed an RTI Query to know whether if Rajiv Gandhi used INS Viraat for a personal holiday. In reply, The Integrated Headquarters of the Ministry of Defence (Navy) refuted the charges levelled by PM Modi by saying, 'Unauthorised/Private Journeys aren’t permitted onboard Indian Navy Ships'.

To the query if then PM Rajiv Gandhi used INS Viraat for his personal vacation in the Lakshadweep in 1987, The Indian Navy clarified it's not a personal visit and only Sonia Gandhi accompanied Rajiv Gandhi.
