Despite Covid second wave failure and a failing economy, Prime Minister Narendra Modi still has a higher approval rating. Though it has fallen from 75 per cent last year to 66 per cent this year, he continues to lead over US president Biden, Russia's Putin, French PM Immanuel Macron and German chancellor Angela Merkel.
The Global Leader Approval Rating Tracker survey of the American data intel firm Morning Consult says that Modi is still hugely popular in the country. According to the survey report, Modi's approval rating in 2020 May was 84 per cent. The survey showed that the handling of the second wave has affected Modi's overall credibility. Mexican president Andres Manuel Lopez Obrador stands third with 63 per cent. Australian PM Scott Morrison and Germany's Angela Merkel stand fourth and fifth.
US president Joe Biden and Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau and Boris Johnson come next in that order. Biden has got 53 per cent approval ratings, while Trudeau has only 48 per cent.
