India will be celebrating the 75th anniversary of Independence Day on August 15. Within hours, the celebrations will start across the country.

Ahead of the Independence day, the Prime Minister of India Narendra Modi made an announcement of 'Partition Horrors Remembrance Day' a day dedicated to remember the pain caused by the partition of India.

The 'Partition Horrors Remembrance Day' will be observed on August 14, i.e today. The announcement was made by Narendra Modi on Twitter through a series of tweets.

The second-time Prime Minister Narendra Modi in one his tweets said that the day will be observed to remember the sacrifices made by the people and the struggles they faced during the partition time.

Saying that millions of people were displaced due to the violence that broke out during the partition, Narendra Modi maintained that the 'Partition Horrors Remembrance Day' is a reminder to wipe out the disharmony and social divisions.

"Partition's pains can never be forgotten.Millions of our sisters and brothers were displaced and many lost their lives due to mindless hate and violence. In memory of the struggles and sacrifices of our people, 14th August will be observed as Partition Horrors Remembrance Day," Narendra Modi tweeted.

"May the Partition Horrors Remembrance Day keep reminding us of the need to remove the poison of social divisions, disharmony and further strengthen the spirit of oneness, social harmony and human empowerment," his tweet adds.

Needless to say, India saw horrific scenes during the partition time in 1947. While leaving India, the Britishers have divided India and Pakistan.

At the same time, Hindus and Muslims were subjected to attacks and rapes. The border states like Punjab were severely impacted with this.

As an example to give a picture on how violent the massacre was, the trains were filled with dead bodies. When Pakistan sent a train full of dead bodies, India gave a strong answer by sending a train full of corpses to Pakistan.

Properties in India and Pakistan were destroyed at the time of partition due to the mass riots. No words can describe the pain caused by the riots and massacre.
