Has Modi gave his nod for hike in MLA Seats?
By: Tupaki Desk | 28 Jun 2017 1:21 PM GMTDelimitation of MLA Constituencies in Telugu States is a long pending issue. Particularly, Ruling Parties have been badly in need of increase in MLA Seats to prevent group wars erupting after they encouraged defections. Both TDP and TRS lured over 20 MLAs each from the Opposition Parties since 2014 Polls.
If the latest buzz is true by any chance, Prime Minister Narendra Modi has responded positively to the proposal moved by AP and Telangana Chief Ministers last week when they attended nomination filing of NDA Presidential Candidate Ram Nath Kovind. The process of delimitation is going to commence within 10 days. Law Ministry sought AP & Telangana Governments to submit the administrative report so that amendment to the constitution will be done and the bill will be introduced in Parliament. Election Commission sought a detailed report on delimitation of constituencies from State Election Commission.
As per AP Reorganisation Act, Assembly Constituencies in AP and Telangana should be increased to 225 from 175 and 153 from 119 respectively.
