On the occasion of the opening day of the five-day festival celebrations in West Bengal, Prime Minister Narendra Modi took part in the celebrations virtually and inaugurated Puja Pandals.

Addressing the Puja Pandals virtually, the Prime Minister tried to speak a bit of Bengali and paid tributes to icons who hail from the Bengal land.

He said Bengal has led the way and shown the path for the country whenever there was a need. To guide the country on the right path, Many icons from the state have contributed, he said.

Referring to the government's flagship scheme "Beti Bachao, Beti Padao", he said Women are the symbol of Goddess Durga and the government is working to empower women.

He also expressed his concern over the public floating the Covid-19 norms during the festival season, which might turn out to be a big disaster. He urged the public to follow the Covid-19 protocols.

This time, West Bengal will worship Migrant Mother as Goddess Durga to pay special tributes to the migrant workers who were severely affected by the pandemic outbreak and a series of lockdowns.
