More Trouble To Pakistan, FATF Keeps The Nation On The Grey List Till June!
By: Tupaki Desk | 26 Feb 2021 6:00 AM GMTPakistan is often accused of sponsoring terrorism and terror-related activists in the country and outside the region as well. However, Pakistan has never admitted to these allegations.
Our neighboring country faced a lot of problems with these allegations over the decades like poverty and destabilitaion of the economy. Pakistan faced one more hammer blow with this reportedly.
Intergovernmental organisation Financial Action Task Force (FATF) has reportedly decided to retain Pakistan in the grey list. Pakistan would continue to be on the grey list till June this year.
Media reports claimed, the global financial watchdog found deficiencies in Pakistan's efforts to check terror financing and the nation lacks efficiency in the system to tackle it.
FATF is said to have claimed that Pakistan has failed to implement three crucial steps in this regard and directed the nation to focus on the three steps to counter terrorism.
Pakistan should demonstrate targeted financial sanctions against all designated persons and groups. It should submit the investigations and persecutions and should target people who are acting on behalf of them. Pakistan should show the effective actions it has achieved.
However, the Pakistani Minister for Industries Hammad Azhar claimed that Pakistan has completed nearly 90 percent of the FATF action plan. The Minister said this in his tweet.
"Pakistan has completed almost 90% of its current FATF action-plan with 24 out of 27 items rated as 'largely addressed' and remaining 3 items 'partially addressed'.FATF has acknowledged Pak's high level political commitment since 2018 that led to significant progress," he tweeted.
"It was also noted by FATF member countries that Pakistan is subject to perhaps the most challenging & comprehensive action plan ever given to any country. We are also subject to dual evaluation processes of FATF with differing time lines," he added.
