The Motor Vehicles (Amendment) Bill 2017 placed in the Lok Sabha raises the doubt if Centre took inspiration from 'Bharat Ane Nenu' in which hefty fines were levied by CM to curb traffic violations. Several measures have been taken to change the way India drives and prevent road mishaps.

On an average, 1.46 lakh people have been dying in India every year due to road mishaps. The new Bill is aimed at reducing the road accidents at least 50 percent by 2020.

Though Motor Vehicles (Amendment) Bill 2017 was already passed in Lok Sabha, Opposition Parties object it in Rajya Sabha citing the harsh measures. What will Centre do now? Will it modify the proposals to get the nod of Opposition or Waits till few more sessions to obtain required majority in the Upper House?

Motor Vehicles (Amendment) Bill 2017 Proposals:

1) Aadhaar Mandatory for getting Driving Licence and Vehicle Registration

2) Hit-and-Run Cases: Government Ex-Gratia for Deceased's Family increased to Rs 2 lakh from Rs 25,000.

3) Guardians or Owner of the Vehicle will be held responsible for traffic violations by Minors unless they prove the offence happened without their knowledge. Even Registration of the vehicle will be cancelled. The Minor will be tried under Juvenile Justice Act.

4) People who help Road Mishap Victims will be protected from Criminal or Civil Liability. It's up to their choice whether to disclose their identity or not to police or medical staff.
