No Dual MRPs on Pre-Packaged Products
By: Tupaki Desk | 30 Jun 2017 11:06 AM GMTUsually, Packaged Products were sold for various prices depending on the location. A water bottle with an MRP of Rs 20 is being sold at Multiplex for Rs 50 and at an Airport for Rs 100. The new law which is coming into effect from January 1st, 2018 will end this dual MRPs culture.
Union Food and Consumer Affairs Minister Ram Vilas Paswan gave his nod for amendments to the Legal Metrology (Packaged Commodities) Rules, 2011. This amendment prohibits different MRPs on any pre-packaged products.
From next year, Manufacturers of packaged products should comply with mandatory labeling requirements. Products on e-commerce platforms will have to display required declarations (Name & Address of the Manufacturer, Importer, Packer, Net Content, Retail Sale Price & etc.,) as per the new rules. Even Medical devices were included in this bracket.
Centre believes these Amendments will eventually benefit the consumers. This decision was taken upon receiving many complaints over dual MRPs at places like Cinemas, Malls and Airports.
