Indian activist-poet Varavara Rao got a sigh of relief after the Bombay High Court directed the Maharashtra government to move the poet to Nanavati Hospital for 15 days.

The Court ordered the government to shift him to the state-run hospital for treatment while hearing a petition filed by Varavara Rao's wife. The Court also asked the state government to bear the treatment cost of the poet.

Senior lawyer Indira Jaising who appeared before the court on the behalf of the poet told the court that he developed head injuries at JJ Hospital while undergoing treatment for Coronavirus.

She added that the state government allegedly displayed negligence in taking care of the activist-poet and he needs to be moved to the hospital if the state cannot take care of him.

The poet was arrested back in 2018, under the charges of the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act. He, along with nine other activists were accused of plotting violence. They are facing allegations of making proactive speeches in Pune.

The cases filed against the accused included the poet who hails from Telangana alleges that the provocative speeches led to the violence at the Koregaon-Bhima war memorial.
