Municipal Polls to be held in AP, after one year delay

Andhra Pradesh, which has witnessed two phases of Panchayat elections and will witness the remaining two phases of polls this month is all set to witness one more intense and much-awaited election.
Andhra Pradesh SEC Nimmagadda Ramesh Kumar has issued an election schedule for the Municipal elections in the state, which covers the Corporations and Municipalities in the state.
According to the election schedule, the candidates will be permitted to withdraw their nominations from the second of March to the third of March afternoon. The candidates can withdraw their nominations by 3 PM.
After 3 PM on March 3rd, the SEC will announce the final list of the candidates for the polls. The polls will be held on the 10th of March from 7 AM to 5 PM. The repolling will be held on March 13th if it is necessary. Vote counting will take place on March 14 and the results will be announced the next day.
It has been widely reported that the election code came into effect in the Corporations and Municipalities across the state. 12 Municipal polls and 75 Municipal Corporations will have elections.
Nimmagadda Ramesh Kumar reportedly chaired a crucial meeting with key officials like CS, DGP, and other officials in the state on multiple occasions to discuss the Municipal elections.
It is said that the officials assured that they would cooperate with the State Election Commissioner to see that the Municipal elections are held in a peaceful atmosphere like the local body polls.
The Municipal elections were supposed to be held in March last year. Given the Covid-19 situations, the polls kept on getting delayed. Hence, the re-notification was issued by the SEC.
Now it is interesting to know whether the employees' unions of the AP government will come forward to exercise their duties or the SEC has to once again seek the help of central agencies.
