Nagarjunasagar fallout: Parties worried about poll campaign
X
Will Nagarjunasagar repeat itself in Warangal, Khammam, Siddipet, Nakrekal and other places where elections are on? No… we are not talking about a TRS sweep. We are talking about the sudden spike in Corona cases.

The high voltage campaign by the political parties in Nagarjunasagar has led to a no-holds-barred rallies, meetings and public gatherings. The leaders and cadres of all the major political parties have thrown caution to winds and campaigned like there's no tomorrow. Public hugging, shaking of hands and patting of backs went on unhindered on the stages. The leaders and the cadres rubbed shoulders during the campaign. Four ministers and ten MLAs from the ruling TRS have campaigned vigorously for 43 days in Nagarjunasagar. At the beginning of the campaign on March 14, Nalgonda reported just 9 cases a day. But, it has gone up to 102 on the day when KCR addressed Haalia public meeting. Now, on an average 144 cases are being reported every day. Even in the BJP camp, candidate Ravi Naik, district BJP chief Sridhar Reddy, his wife Nivedita Reddy and several others have tested Covid positive.

Seeing this dangerous outcome, politicians in towns and cities that are going for polls are worried. They are afraid of contacting Covid virus. But, a low key campaign could prove counter-productive for them as the Opposition might take advantage. As of now, the campaign is mostly indirect. But soon it might become shriller and competitive.
