Modi's Effigy depicting him as Ravana set on fire
By: Tupaki Desk | 14 Oct 2016 8:36 AM GMTWhen the entire country was celebrating Dussehra with Ravan-vadh, A Group of Students of Jawaharlal Nehru University (JNU) burnt effigy of PM Narendra Modi symbolizing Ravana. They even set the effigies of BJP President Amit Shah and Gandhi's killer Godse ablaze as part of the Vijaya Dasami celebrations.
The group behind this act were said to be the Members of National Students Union of India (NSUI) which is backed by Congress party. This seems to be in protest against the growing interference of Centre in matters related to Universities. A Member of the NSUI told, 'Narendra Modi and RSS are symbol of untruth. Hence, We celebrated victory of truth over falsehood by burning effigies in a democratic country'.
Some of the NSUI Members maintained the effigies doesn't symbolise Ravana. 'Why few communities worship Rama, Adivasi's pray to Ravana. Its not about Rama or Ravana, but victory of truth over falsehood,' they say.
JNU Vice Chancellor M Jagadesh Kumar told the issues of burning PM Modi's effigy has come to his notice and the matter is being investigated.
