The Union Government led by Prime Minister Narendra Modi is paying a high price for the deadly outbreak of the second wave of ongoing Coronavirus in the country. The government is facing severe criticism from various sections.

The international media has also become critical of PM Modi along with the opposition parties. Mainly, the US media has come down severely on Narendra Modi and attributed the rise in Covid cases and fatalities to the election rallies held by him and the Kumbh Mela celebrations.

Now to counter the global criticism, it has been widely reported that the Government of India is all set to launch a new channel and the channel is likely to be on the lines of BBC World. Indian government wants to give the voice of the country on various issues.

The possible channel would be the second attempt of the Indian government to see the global news from India's point of view. Earlier, the state-owned DD India was renamed as DD World. However, the channel's name was changed to its previous name in 2019.

It has been widely reported that Prasar Bharati, Doordarshan's parent body is in plans to seek the help of private firms to run the channel as earlier the government was not involved in such business.

It's interesting to know, how far can the Modi government fare in hitting back the criticism it has been receiving since the pandemic effect and entering the global media arena. Only time has an answer to this.
