Emergency Imposed In Sri Lanka

Island nation Sri Lanka declared a state of emergency in the country to control communal violence flared up between Sinhalese and Muslims. Two people have been killed in the riots several homes have been damaged in the Kandy. Dozens of mosques were also damaged in the riots in the central district.
According to the media reports, the tension was growing between the two groups for the past one year and it took the shape of riots on Tuesday. Buddhist monks and Sinhala groups have been accusing the Muslims of forceful conversions and belittling the majority community.
Sri Lankan President Maithripala Sirisena declared a 10-day state of emergency across the country fearing the violence could spread further. The emergency was imposed in the island nation after a period of seven years.
It is known that a T20 match is scheduled between India-Sri Lanka teams in Colombo. Though there were concerns about the match, BCCI issued a statement that the match will go on as per the schedule. They revealed that the situation is completely normal in Colombo and high security has been deployed at the stadium.
