The national capital Delhi is fearing the ongoing Coronavirus. On average Delhi has been witnessing nearly 20,000 new cases, which makes it one of the severely hit regions in India.

Amid rise in Covid-19 cases at an alarming level, Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal announced a six-day lockdown. The lockdown will come into effect from 10 PM tonight and will end at 5 AM next Monday.

Terming the Coronavirus situation critical, the Chief Minister said the lockdown decision was necessary to counter the Covid cases which are going up daily at an alarming level.

"Delhi's health system is at a breaking point which is in a critical situation. Though lockdown will not end the virus, it will certainly bring down the transmission rate of the virus," Arvind Kejriwal said.

The Chief Minister went on to say that the one-week lockdown will give time for the government to improve the healthcare system and infrastructure in Delhi.

Talking about the medical infrastructure, Kejriwal said, there is a scarcity of hospital beds, medical oxygen supplies, and Remdesivir.

Delhi, which has been reporting over 20,000 new cases for the past 3-4 days has recorded, highest cases so far with not less than 25,462 cases. 161 people have breathed their last battling the virus.
