NEET Controversy: Should We Need More Of Women invigilators?

Like every year, the annual medical test for the medical aspirants, the National Eligibility cum Entrance Test (NEET) was conducted earlier this week. Aspirants across the nation took the exam and the examination centers saw good footfalls. However, the NEET exam has run into a big controversy with a lot of complaints coming from students and parents.

Reports say that many woman students were forced to remove their innerwear to write the exam as the metal detector made an alerting sound. The girls were reportedly left with no other option and they just followed what they were instructed.

This shocking incident was reported in Thiruvananthapuram and other places in God's own country Kerala. After the issue created a big uproar, a few women officers were made in charge and a case was filed against a few staff members taking the complaints failed by the female students into consideration.

The recent issue brings the discussion on the need to deploy female invigilators for the exams so that the students won't feel uneasy and uncomfortable. Most of the students who were asked to take their innerwear gave their exams in front of the male invigilators.

Though what the staff did with the female aspirants is outrageous, they would have not faced such a problematic situation if there were female invigilators in the examination centre.

A discussion on the lack of female staff as invigilators was also started after the issues popped up. Though there are a few female staff members, we get t see more of the male staff members more often at the centres.

The sad part is that we don't have any particular dress code for the exams. If there would have any set of guidelines as far as the dress code is concerned, then such issues won't pop up. The aspirants would follow the guidelines while dressing up for the exams.

The exam centers heave cleverly pushed the blame on the National Testing Agency (NTA) saying that the agency's staff members were deployed at the centres. The issue reached the Parliament and the union government called for an investigation.
