Actress Jayamala who has done many films down South in the 80s is the only woman minister in the cabinet of Karnataka CM HD Kumaraswamy. She also holds the record of being the first Female Actor to grab the ministerial berth.
The 62-Year-Old MLC was assigned Women Development and Child Welfare Portfolio as part the power-sharing deal between JD (S) & Congress. 'I am the First MLC from Billava Community after Independence, First direct entrant as Minister & Floor Leader in the Council from Sandalwood. Never did I lobby for any post. My talent was recognized by the Congress party,' she says proudly.
Not many knew that Jayamala is a PhD Scholar and her thesis was about relocation of women due to Almatti Project.
Jayamala featured in Chiranjeevi's action entertainer 'Rakshasudu' (1986). She sizzled in the song 'Nee meeda Naaku Idayyo'.
