New Covid-19 Variant Spreads In California
By: Tupaki Desk | 19 Jan 2021 7:12 AM GMTWhile the world countries are worrying about the highly contagious mutation discovered by Britain, the scientists in the US have now discovered a new coronavirus variant in California.
As the nation continues to struggle with increasing cases and deaths, it is not clear whether the new strain found in California is more deadly or not.
The UK's strain, B 1.1.7., has been identified in 18 states, according to a DailyMail.com analysis of federal and state data. The new Covid variant identified in California has been linked to large outbreaks in Santa Clara. Known as L452R, it has been linked to massive outbreaks in Santa Clara and seen in many counties including Los Angeles, San Diego and San Francisco.
'This virus continues to mutate and adapt, and we cannot let down our guard,' said Dr Sara Cody, director of the County of Santa Clara Public Health Department, in a statement. It was first detected in Denmark in March in California in May.
