Join the party, take money: New trend among sarpanches in Munugode
X
One of the biggest problems that the major political parties are facing in the poll-bound Munugode is to ascertain which sarpanch is in which party. Those in the know reveal the stunning fact that the sarpanches are in TRS one day and are in the BJP the very next day. Meet them a couple of days later, you will find them in the Congress camp. The cycle, the observers say, is repeating every week.

Such is the demand for the sarpanches that all the parties are now seeking them and are trying to woo them into their respective camps. A sarpanch usually commands control over at least 30 percent of the votes in a gram panchayat. So, if a sarpanch supports a party, that party is sure of a major chunk of votes in that gram panchayat. Hence, all the three major political parties are seeking out for the gram panchayat sarpanches.

Interestingly, many sarpanches are 're-joining' the same party they are in. The reason is that the party leadership is said to be paying them back their electoral expenses incurred during the time of the panchayat elections.

There are 25 sarpanches in Choutuppal mandal, 31 in Samsthan Narayanpur, 23 in Chandur, 20 in Marriguda and 32 in Nampally mandal. Most of these sarpanches are said to be busy meeting leaders of various political parties. Interestingly, no sarpanch is available on the phone. They prefer to meet the leaders in person and fix the 'rate' for joining the party.
