You Insulted My Daughter's Fight: Nirbhaya's Mom

Former Karnataka DGP and MP HT Sangliana made objectionable remarks on Asha Devi, the mother of Nirbhaya who was brutally gang-raped in a moving bus in Delhi in 2012. He dared to say Nirbhaya's Mother has such a good physique, I can visualize how beautiful Nirbhaya might have been. This remark was made at a function on International Women's Day in Bengaluru on March 9th.
Asha Devi wrote an open letter slamming the former DGP for making such an insensitive remark on a Rape Victim's Mother. 'You didn't think twice if it's inappropriate why commenting on my physique. You said if someone overpowers you, then a girl should surrender so that at least she will survive. Not only did you disrespect the fight that my daughter put up in those monstrous moments, you also displayed the sick, patriarchal attitudes of our society at large. My daughter's rapists too had expressed a similar thought - how they could not tolerate the fact that she was fighting back. It is indeed a matter of great shame that the thinking of the so-called caretakers of society such as yourself and the thinking of the criminals, seems to me, to be exactly the same,' she commented.
Nirbhaya's Mom asked the MP if the same advice would be given to our Indian Soldiers, so that their lives will be saved the next time they were attacked at the borders.
