Why did Nirbhaya's Parents approach NHRC?
By: Tupaki Desk | 25 Nov 2015 6:31 AM GMTParents of Nirbhaya, who was raped in a moving bus in Nation's capital few years ago, approached National Human Rights Commission (NHRC) to express their objections over the release of the Juvenile offender on December 15th. They conveyed to the NHRC about the threat this juvenile who is involved in the rape and murder of their daughter could poses to the society.
Nirbhaya's Parents appealed NHRC to keep a strict check on such juvenile offenders as the tendency to commit such crimes again is high. They urged for a mechanism to track the movements of such offenders after the release to ensure safety of citizens.
Taking the complaint into consideration, NHRC issued notices to Centre and Delhi Government over the issue. The Commission asked Governments to look into the fears expressed by Nirbhaya's Parents.
As per Rule 17(3) of the Juvenile Justice (Care and Protection of Children) Rules 2007, The Juvenile Offender in Nirbhaya rape and murder case was sentenced for 3 years.
