Several BJP leaders urged the NITI Aayog to "expeditiously" examine the issue of granting Special Status for Andhra Pradesh.

NITI Aayog member said that it was not possible to accord special status to the newly formed state as the current economical position was not favourable. One of its member Dr. V.K. Saraswat clearly states that the institution is not preparing any report on AP to decide on Special status.

He further said that it is not important whether AP is granted special status or not but the focus should be on whether the revenue deficit state is being accorded funds or not.He also said that Telangana is facing water crisis and the government of India will provide funds for its Mission Kakatiya programme for redeveloping water bodies.
