As the country is maintaining a steady decline in fresh cases for few weeks, NITI Aayog member VK Saraswat opined that India had managed well in dealing with the second wave of novel Coronavirus.

However, he stressed the need for the preparations to face the third wave of Covid-19, as children and younger people are likely to be affected by the next phase of the pandemic.

Citing the epidemiologists, Saraswat said, the third wave of Coronavirus might be inevitable and is expected to start from September-October this year. More and more people should be vaccinated, he said.

The NITI Aayog went on to say that with the help of science and technology activities, the country has managed to cope up with the second wave. Oxygen banks were set up to supply the oxygen. To transport the liquid oxygen, railways, airports, and the military was used, Saraswat said.

Drawing comparisons between the cases reported during the peaks of the second wave and now, the NITI Aayog member said, earlier over 4 lakh cases were reported and the case count had come down to nearly 1.3 lakh.

"We did a fantastic job (of managing the second wave of Covid-19 pandemic), what we call emergency management," Saraswat said in the interview he gave to News Agency PTI.
