Elections Are Not Won With Posters: Union Minister!

Voting for the favorite party and candidate is a healthy sign of democracy. India is a democratic country and people elect their representatives. This is on paper. The reality is that election is a costly affair and common people cannot afford the expenses. Legislators are given some limits to spending for elections.

But the thing is that money decided who gets to win the elections. During the recent Munugode by-elections, we have seen how the parties spent big amounts to woo the voters. A party reportedly gave gold coins. With this, we can understand how tough it is to get voters to come to polling booths.

All these aspects are in the discussion due to the sensational comments made by the Union Minister for Road Transport and Highways Nitin Gadkari. Addressing a gathering, the Minister said that he would not put up any posters or banners and he will also not offer tea to anyone.

Nitin Gadkari said that elections are won on the service politicians did and not on the posters that were set up. Recalling his previous elections from Nagpur which is a tough constituency, he said that many advised him to pick another seat but he went with Nagpur.

The Minister went on to say that he will not put up any posters or banners and those who want to vote for him will vote and those who don't want to vote for him will not vote for him.

"Now I have decided that in the next election, I will not put up any poster or banner, I will not offer tea to anyone or do anything else. Those who want to vote for me will do so and those who don't want to, will not," the Union Minister said.
