No Mass Layoffs by Indian IT Firms: Nasscom
By: Tupaki Desk | 13 May 2017 6:36 AM GMTNasscom condemned the media reports hinting that IT Companies in the country will be opting for massive layoffs this year. The Indian IT Body issued a statement saying India's IT Industry will continue to hire around 1.5 lakh people on yearly basis.
US-based IT Firm Cognizant served Pink Slips to its senior staff by offering them 6-9 months of salary. Leading Indians IT Films such as Wipro, Infosys and Tech Mahindra have already sacked thousands of employees citing below par performance. Techies who lost their jobs have launched protests in Tamil Nadu and Telangana forcing the State Governments to intervene.
However, Nasscom clarifies that ongoing layoffs in various IT Firms is a normal procedure followed to prevent employees from being complacent and remain competitive in international markets. The IT Body maintains, 'There is no need to get panicked as layoffs are just carried out on performance basis'.
