No MayDay call received: ATC on Bipins chopper crash!

In what could be a piece of sad news, CDS chief Bipin Rawat and 12 others have died on Wednesday after the Army chopper crashed in Tamil Nadu’s Coonoor. The incident also killed Bipin Rawat’s wife Madhulika Rawat, and other army personnel. The India Air Force had announced an inquiry to know the reason behind the crash.

When everyone was waiting for the report to be out, the Coimbatore establishment of the Automotive Test Systems reportedly said that no disaster signal was made by the pilot. It also said that if the pilot had sensed any such situation, a signal would have been made.

Ruling out the media reports that the pilot had made MayDay Call, the Coimbatore ATS made it clear that no such call was made by the pilot. When a pilot senses any danger MayDay Call will be made to seek help. But such a call was not made, the ATC official said.

Another reason behind the chopper not being traceable is that the choppers that travel at low altitudes cannot be traced by the ATC. We did not receive any calls seeking help, the ATC sources said.
